Power and Priorities
As you begin your work on the film and its impact campaign, it will be helpful to pause to have an honest conversation about what matters most — to each of you. Operating with presumption that everyone cares about the same marks of success generally does not work out well.
Luckily, we have an exercise the team can undertake to get it all out in the open.
Put the following sixteen priorities in order of their importance to you, with 1 being the most important and 16 being the least. If you have something you would like to add to the list, please do. Be honest about what matters to you!
- I want to contribute to changing unjust policies.
- I want to change public opinion.
- I want to prompt action by decision makers.
- I want to mobilize the grassroots.
- I want audiences to be emotionally moved by the story we tell.
- I want the film to be seen by as many people as possible.
- I want the film to be seen by influencers who can help us to achieve our impact goals.
- I want the film to have a wide theatrical distribution.
- I want the film to stream worldwide.
- I want to bring the film to communities who may not otherwise see it.
- I want the film to be used in classrooms — for years to come.
- I want this film to lead to new opportunities to make more films.
- I want to get paid.
- I want our investors to get repaid.
- I want the film to win industry awards.
- I want the film to win impact-related awards.

The exercise facilitator could gather the worksheets to compile and share the results and then orchestrate a conversation about the potential conflicts and how the team can manage them.
